Twitter has undergone some serious redesign for the desktop website, that is to say, it has been heavily influenced by the mobile app and changed the overall interface accordingly. Things have had such vast changes that it’s a little surprising people still can’t edit their tweets.
Perhaps it is to make people think twice before posting and be held liable for their comments. Either way, now you have the power to switch between accounts without logging out and reply to direct messages in an actually direct manner.
Most of the changes have been useful, which makes the browser version of it worth coming back to from a third-party app.
This is probably the main reason why twitter invested in such a large project anyway: since people use twitter on their phones the most, then third party developers might take away from revenue that twitter can make with ads from their site directly. Here are some changes they have incorporated.

Overall interface redesign
The browser version feels reminiscent of the Twitter app on mobile. They have taken all the positive aspects of the mobile app and incorporated it into the website. The layout has been streamlined, looks less cluttered even though there is a lot going on.
The navigation bar has been pushed to the left and mimics the options available on the mobile app, in that it allows you to access the more popular features to help you find content more quickly.

Messaging
One of the more useful features they have optimized are the direct messages. Interacting with direct messages used to open up a pop-up window.
Now, you can get a list of messages and select the one you want, where it expands to the right. This is far more convenient than the previous design that made things unnecessarily complicated.

Bookmarks and lists
The bookmark feature used to be barely usable on the desktop. There was limited accessibility to bookmarked tweets and it took a long, complicated list of commands to get to it. Now, the bookmarks and lists are located in the side navigation, meaning you can find the content you are searching for whenever you want. You can more easily keep tabs on groups of accounts now.

Explore
The explore feature from the mobile app is now on the website, where it shows you trending stories as well as hashtags and live videos. It has replaced the ‘moments’ tab, which was not present on mobile. Now, with more consistency between the desktop and mobile, navigating through both of them has become easier.

Multi-user fast switching
You can sign into multiple accounts on twitter via the mobile app, which is something the desktop website has added as a feature. Now you need not log out first.

Dark mode
Finally, it has included dark mode on the desktop, which is great for late-night browsing. Twitter’s ‘dim mode’ allows you to choose from new color schemes, and allows you to change the background.
