7 Tips to Help Keep Your Car Safe

After your house, your car is generally the most valuable item you own, so it makes sense to keep it as safe as possible. While there is lots of great technology that goes into keeping our cars safe, there are also plenty of innovative thieves out there, which means you have got to take steps to protect your car.

So, follow these seven tips and help to keep your car a little bit safer.

Lock It

It is so obvious it almost doesn’t need to be included on the list. Locking your car is the easiest way to protect your car and keep it safe from thieves. Many car crimes are opportunistic, and the ideal opportunity is spotting an unlocked car.

Most of us are good about remembering to lock the car, but if you’re someone who regularly forgets, then it’s time to focus on making sure you remember this step every time you leave the car.

Do not Leave Valuable on View

This is another point that is there to discourage opportunistic thieves. If you leave valuables on show in your car, then you’re giving thieves a reason to break into your car.

When there’s nothing in the car people can see, then they have no idea if there’s any reward for breaking in. However, when you leave items lying around, they can immediately see the rewards of targeting your car.

If there are two cars on the street, and one appears empty, and the other has a wallet and phone on the front seat, which one do you think is more likely to be targeted?

CCTV

The home CCTV camera market has developed a lot in recent years, and there are now tons of reasonably priced options. Having a CCTV camera focused on your car not only puts off would-be thieves but can also help get your car back if it is stolen.

Likewise, dash cams that go within your car can help keep your car safe when you’re on the road. This records footage of your driving automatically so that it can be a big help for things like fraudulent insurance claims.

CCTV can be a huge help in your fight to protect your car, so check out your options and add that extra layer of security.

Secure Parking

When you’re running late and need to find a parking spot, any old place will often. However, there’s a massive difference between leaving your car in a secure parking facility and leaving it on a dark side street.

It might take a little extra effort to locate good parking, but it’s well worth it in the long run. These parking spaces are much more secure, well-monitored and are going to give you a much better chance of keeping your car safe.

If there’s secure parking available in the area, then it’s always worth taking.

Garage

It’s not just where you park your car when you’re out and about that’s important. You’ve also got to consider where you leave your car when you’re at home, particularly at night.

If you’ve got a garage, then make the most of it, and keep your car in there every night. So many people use their garage for storage at the cost of their car, but this can leave your car vulnerable.

Even if you don’t have a garage, there are some great options to buy portable garages. These structures are quick and easy to put up and can offer the extra level of protection you need.

Blocking Wallet

As car security becomes more sophisticated, so do the thieves trying to steal your car. One way thieves have developed their techniques is to scan your key and copy the unique signal it gives off to open the car.

This gives the thieves easy access to your car as if they had the key themselves.

You can protect against this, though, and a good way to do this is to keep your key in an anti RFD blocking wallet. This device will stop signal readers from copying the signal of your key, taking another option away from would-be thieves.

Look After Your Keys

If someone wants access to your car, then the easiest way is with your keys. As soon as a thief has your keys, then they’re in complete control, so make sure you’re keeping them safe at all times.

At home, keep your keys out of sight and away from the doors where people might be able to reach in and grab them quickly. When you are out and about, make sure they’re tucked away in a pocket or bag, rather than being out on show for anyone to grab them.

There is no point taking chances with your keys, so keep them close.
