The Top Things You Must do When You Visit New York

Visiting New York, and taking in everything it has to offer may have been something that you planned to do for a while. There are lots of things to see and do, and knowing roughly what you want to experience is essential. Or, it may have been something that you spontaneously decided you wanted to do. Whatever position you are in, and no matter how much planning you have already done, it is important to think about the top things you must do on a visit to New York.

Visit the Statue of Liberty

Offered as a gift from the French to the United States, the Statue of Liberty stands for so much in terms of friendship and hope. Towering at over 150 feet, she is not something that you will miss. This is a hugely popular attraction for visitors and tourists alike, and whether you decide to climb the steps to the crown, or you settle for the lookout below her feet, it will be a worthwhile and memorable trip that you will not forget. To ensure you get the full experience, you need to book tours and statue of liberty tickets in advance. You don’t want to turn up on the day to find you cannot complete a tour or climb the stairs because it is too busy.

Spend a Day in Central Park

As the setting to many movies and romcoms, Central park is a destination for nature lovers, and those looking for a bit of peace too. Throughout the year, you will find that festivals and events are held that are organized to bring people together. To take in the full natural beauty of this large park, you may wish to hire a bike to cover as much ground as possible. Or, you may wish to take a boat ride or gondola ride to see the park from a different angle.

Visit the Rockefeller Center

The Rockefeller center is home to 19 buildings. In this cluster of buildings, you will find plenty of places to shop and dine. When you are ready to take in the views of the city, you will be able to visit the Top of the Rock. This fantastic viewing platform allows you to see the city as you never thought possible. The viewing and observation platforms are indoor and outdoor, so suitable to visit in any kind of weather.

Indulge Yourself in Art and Museums

If you are looking to sink your teeth into culture and art during your visit to New York, then go for it. You must take the opportunity to head to the many museums and galleries dotted throughout the city. For instance, a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art will give you a chance to see artwork and collections that span centuries and decades. In this grand setting, you will find over 5000 pieces that you can browse and lose yourself in.

Take in a Broadway Show

There may have been a show or musical that you have seen good reviews about, or you may be open to what you see. A Broadway show or musical can help you immerse yourself in the arts, entertainment, and culture that New York has to offer. When you are deciding what show to see, think about your favorite shows and movies, but also think about history too. A lot of shows are factual, historical, and thought-provoking. There are often several shows or performances at any given time, however, booking tickets in advance will ensure you see what you want (and when you want).

Visit the Empire State Building

This is an art-deco building that is famous for its height as well as its striking design. The 102 floors of this building are impressive to look at, and for over 40 years, it was the tallest building in the world. On the 86th floor, and even on the 102nd floor, there are observation decks that allow you to take in panoramic views of the city and its skyline. Open until late, this is always a popular tourist hotspot, and as such pre-booking tickets for the observation deck, or the NY Sky ride is a motion simulator tour that is highly recommended.

Head to Times Square

If you are looking to visit a truly lively destination that is open all day and late into the night, then head to Times Square. When you are in Times Square, you can take in the famous attractions before having a cocktail, and then taking part in some retail therapy. Illuminated advertising boards draw your attention to this busy intersection. Times Square has so much more to offer than just Broadway shows, and it should be on your list of places to visit, even if you are only exploring New York for a few days.
