Questions About Chargeback Offer Being Raised By Factorio Developers To G2A

The indie organization and construction simulation game Factorio players are kept abreast of the recent developments in the game’s progress by the company through regular blogs. The most recent of those report showed an all-time record low of bugs, along with the latest know-how of the developments in the G2A story.

The background

A construction and management simulation video game in nature, Factorio was developed by Wube Software. Development of this game started in 2012, and there has been crowdfunding since 2013 to support its existence. Early-access versions have been available on Steam and other distributors from 2014, which helped it to gather further funds. This game is available in both single-unit and multiplayer modes. The storyline of this game revolves around a person who has suffered an accident and was forced to crash on an alien planet and has to harvest the available resources and create a production line to manufacture a rocket. As an open-world simulation, the game can be continued past its storyline by the players.

The issue

The key resale online marketplace G2A has been implicated in the selling of numerous Steam keys that are procured with embezzled credit cards. This led to a flurry of cancellations, forcing Wube software, the creator of the game to pay a chargeback fee of $20 for every non-successful transaction.

Apart from bearing the humiliation of paying the fee for getting stolen from, they also have to find, check and revoke all the Stream keys manually. According to the reports from the company, approximately $6600 has been paid as chargeback fees. The amount could have been higher, but the direct sale of Factorio through the Humble widget following the massive list of fraud and chargeback issues of 2016 stemmed the outflow quite a bit.

In light of the recent developments, G2A announced that they will recruit an auditing company to find spurious keys on their marketplace, and pay back the developers forced to shell out the chargeback fees, 10 times of their losses incurred.

Recent situation

According to the up-to-the-minute on the grapevine, G2A is not keen on acting on their declaration too soon. The latest from the Wube’s PR and community manager Scott Klonan reveals that the reseller company has been notified about the list of the fraudulently bought Steam keys and reminded about their public ‘promise’. G2A offered to check the keys in question, and that’s where the matter is stuck right now. As of now, there has been no reply from the reseller as to which keys were bought illegally among the list of the keys given; although the complete collections of the keys were sent to them. It is evident that a critical issue has popped up regarding these keys.

The company’s attitude

Quite normally, Wube is urging its patrons, present and future, to buy the game directly from them or their official partners, which gives them a right of returning it within 28 days or have functional customer support to solve their problems.
