Uber CEO Travis
Travis Kalanic, the CEO of Uber has stepped down from the business advisory council of Donald Trump, after receiving a lot of criticism from drivers and customers. Apart from the participation of Kalanick, there were others too on the council who received a lot of blow on social media, after the immigration’s executive order was passed. This led to the rise of the campaign named #DeleteUber and in turn, offered benefits to Lyft Inc, its rival.
Users were urged to delete accounts and opt for Lyft Inc. On the other hand, Uber sent emails to users who deleted accounts and said that their concerns will be taken care of and compensations would be offered to drivers who have been affected due to the same.
The CEO wrote “There are many ways we will continue to advocate for just change on immigration but staying on the council was going to get in the way of that. The executive order is hurting many people in communities all across America. Families are being separated, people are stranded overseas and there’s a growing fear the U.S. is no longer a place that welcomes immigrants.”
The CEO of Uber wrote an email to the employees yesterday that he spoke in detail about all his concerns with Donald Trump. Now, he firmly stated that he will not be involved anymore in the advisory council; this was a detailed email that he shared.
The departure of Kalanick from the council has opened the doors for possibilities of attack from the President, don’t you think so? As of now, the next council meeting of Trump has been scheduled today. Expected people include Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, Elon Musk, from Tesla and Mary Barra, from General Motors.
Kalanick had enjoyed a good combative reputation after he spent years fighting with government about the issues; drivers and customers were furious over his involvement in the council of Trump and also said that his response wasn’t critical enough.
This move might pressurize other CEOs who are attending the meeting today. Let us wait and watch as to what happens.
