Ford to Incorporate 4G Wi-Fi Device in Older Models

Good news for all Ford owners! Now, the company is offering an upgrade for all old models. Yes, you got that right; now, it will power the old models with connectivity features just like the new. This includes a 4G Wi-Fi which can be accessed in the car by plugging in a small device.

On Friday, the company said that SmartLink device will be offered in all models without modems and it can be plugged into the OBD II part which lies right near the steering wheel. With this feature, owners of 2010-2016 Lincoln and Ford vehicles having no-modems will get easy access to connectivity on the roads. Ford stated that this new addition will offer advantage to millions of customers.

Ford SmartLink enables customers to use the app and Smartphone for various purposes, be it for unlocking the doors or for starting the car remotely. This Wi-Fi can be connected to around 8 devices and apart from that, there would be vehicle location services and safety alerts. With this technology, scheduling appointments will be easier than never before.

This decision of incorporating Ford SmartLink has indeed come as a surprise to recent models; some of the best features of connectivity features are added, said executive president of Ford Global marketing, Stephen Odell.

The company will start offering the devices from this Summer at Lincoln and Ford dealerships and not only this, customers will have the ease of making online purchases as well. As of now, the pricing information hasn’t been provided but it is stated that it will be affordable and easy on pockets.

It is said that customer groups are now trying and testing it and very soon feedback on the same will be given so that pricing options are framed accordingly; it might include monthly installments and upfront price. The director of Ford said that customers prefer enjoying connectivity in old vehicles, but this doesn’t mean they won’t appreciate the same in old ones.

Basically, customers will get an option of upgrading old vehicles so that they can enjoy the facility of Wi-Fi; they are sure to have a good experience. The company has worked for almost 2 years with Verizon Telematics and Delphi Automative for developing this product. In Delphi, you shall find Delphi Connect that enjoys similar features.

Officials from Ford confirmed that this SmartLink will be from the house of Ford too and has undergone rigorous testing at all levels. Right from performance and security, every single thing has been tested and various improvements have been made for enhancing experience of the customers.
