Taking a solo trip may sound like a scary or even embarrassing prospect at times. However, there are plenty of things to do alone, and some would consider it necessary to simply be ‘by yourself’ while discovering the world. Here are some tips that will ensure an enjoyable trip on your own.
-
Do things you normally would not do in a group
While traveling with others, you may have wanted to do things that either overshot the schedule or the other travelers might not have wanted to do. Take this opportunity to explore at your own pace.
If you see something that is outside your schedule, do it anyway! It is easier to explore a new place in-depth and to do new fun and exciting things. When planning you must have a lot of things on your mind, a lot of places where you would like to go, and you can pace yourself according to your own rules. But be sure not to overbook yourself, otherwise, you might not be able to do everything you would like.
-
Stay safe
Make sure to keep yourself well-equipped in case of an emergency. Leave a copy of your travel itinerary with your family and friends before going, and keep in regular contact with them. For women, there are specific places and hotels where you can stay.
Other than that, you can book for a social hotel or a guesthouse. Make a list of emergency contacts that are on their toes at all times.
-
Be social
The best way to learn about the language and culture of a place is to socialize with people and tourists at your place of stay. Talk to strangers, engage in conversation with cashiers and taxi drivers.
If you have learned the language of the place already (which means you have prepared for this trip for a long time) use the language as much as possible to enrich your vocabulary and cultural context of the language.
-
Your phone is your best friend
In the age of the smartphone, traveling while staying connected and safe has never been easier. Of course, some of you might want to completely cut yourself off for a few days, but that does not mean your phone will not come to use.
With the use of GPS and Maps apps, finding destinations has never been easier. Make sure you keep your phone protected in every way at all times, for this reason only. If possible, you can buy a temporary phone to keep your sim card in, just to tighten the safety part a little bit.
-
Have faith in yourself
If you are traveling solo for the first time, be it for the unavailability of the company or the need to get away from everyone, be confident in your endeavors. Do not feel ashamed for wanting to take a solo trip. Have faith in yourself and you will enjoy the time of your life.
Take your backpack
Take plenty of pictures and make memories. Accomplishing solo travel trips by yourself makes you stronger in willpower, and more confident as a person. So, pack your bags and get ready for the voyage!
