Summers are the one season everyone looks forward to because you can finally go swimming, basking in the sunlight and let’s not forget the summer barbeque parties! Apart from our regular skincare regime, our hair also needs a lot of protection from the harsh UV rays. Whether you are going for brunch or swimming at the beach, haircare is an absolute must!
Here are 11 essential tips to help you take better care of your hair during the sunny and hot summers –
- Don’t wash your hair every day
Wash your hair 2-3 times a week only because washing your hair every day and strip the hair and your scalp of its natural oils. This causes the skin on your scalp to produce even more oil. Instead, choose dry shampoos which help to reduce the oiliness on the scalp and hair. - Comfortable hairstyles
Hair tends to get extremely frizzy during summers due to the heat and humidity. It is best to tie up your hair in comfortable hairstyles such as messy buns or a messy braid. Try not to tie your hair too tight because it will and tug your hair and lead to hair fall out. - Use hair sunscreen
Shampoos that contain UV protection are an excellent choice for your summer hair care when you are stepping out in the harsh sun. These products have a lot of chemicals so avoid using them every day. - Cover up!
Whenever possible, cover up your hair with a scarf, a cap or a hat. This will prevent it from getting damaged due to the harsh sun rays. - Use a wide-tooth comb
Narrow combs or even brushes can be extremely damaging on the hair especially when your hair is wet. Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair as these are gentler on the hair and don’t cause a lot of hair breakage. - Hot oil hair rinse
You can make a hair pack of coconut, olive, castor and avocado oils by heating up this mixture a bit. Apply this on your scalp and on your hair especially the roots. Keep this on for a couple of hours and then rinse off. This will deep condition your scalp and your hair and leave your hair feeling silky soft! - Face the beach look
You can make a hairspray with 1 tsp sea salt, 1 tsp coconut oil and a lot of water in a spray bottle. Just before heading out, you can spray this on your hair and scrunch it to give it beach waves! - Never skip conditioner
The conditioner is an absolute must for summers or even extreme winters because it helps to lock in the moisture and prevent hair frizz. - Spritz your hair through the day
Whenever your hair needs a boost of moisture, you can use a hair spritzer made of aloe vera juice, avocado oil and a water which you can spray on your dry ends. - Reduce styling tools
Styling tools add more heat to the hair which can cause hair damage. Reduce your usage of styling tools or simply use a heat protection spray beforehand. - Protect your blonde hair
Blonde hair turns green when in contact with chlorine so always rinse your blonde wet hair with 2 cups of water mixed with ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar before getting into the pool!
