Winter Wellness

Winter is now officially here, as the days are now brutally short and the weather is extremely chilly. Some people enjoy this season while others don’t. Apart from the natural changes in the atmosphere, a few things won’t remain the same inside the house as well. For instance, your refrigerator will always remain full to the brim with sweet treats, especially right before and several days after Christmas. Naturally, every member of the family might feel like grabbing a bite now and then to satisfy their sweet tooth.

However, the arrival of winter and the goodies don’t mean that you have to send your hard-earned wellness into hibernation. Here are some ways how you can spend the harshest yet most beautiful season of the year without compromising on your health.

1. Keep moving: What if you let your car sit around all winter? When you try to take it out of the garage during one fine spring day, you will notice that there is a dead battery with rust accumulating everywhere under the hood. Don’t you think that snuggling on a couch with your phone and binge-watching Netflix movies is somewhat similar? Yes, you need to pay particular attention to your fitness during the winter. Instead of being a couch potato, you should move around. It will keep you free from stress, injuries, and more balanced, even if the weather gets icy. You should head outdoors and enjoy skiing, ice-skating, sledding, hiking, running, snow-shoeing, or snowboarding.

2. Purchase full-spectrum lights: People living in the northernmost regions of the USA understand that winter blues can be quite disturbing. It causes “seasonal affective disorder,” and this issue hits almost ten million people. So, if you aren’t planning to shift to an entirely different country where summer is endless, then you should consider buying and installing full-spectrum lights. It will prove extremely useful, especially if you have to remain indoors all day. These uniquely designed lights mimic the effect that sunlight has on your bodies.

3. Throat sprays: The cold season is all about snuggling up with the people you love, right? However, you probably don’t want to end up with the germs that they are carrying. No, you don’t have to stay away from your plague-ridden friends or family members. Instead, you should keep a can of throat spray close by. It provides the immunity that you and your loved ones need.

4. Keep an eye on diet: Winter holidays are all about going on trips, playing in the snow, or chugging loads of good food. You can do the first two as much as you want, but you must be mindful about the third. You must try to keep yourself as far as possible from white sugar. If your sweet tooth bothers you too much, then you can shift to antioxidant-rich natural sweeteners, such as good-quality honey. You shouldn’t spend your holidays, eating leftover cake for breakfast every day either. Keep your meals nourishing with lots of veggies and lean meats.
